Potential Health Benefits of Green Coffee Bean Extracts
Green Coffee Beans are loaded with antioxidants and one of those antioxidants is chlorogenic acid.
As noted elsewhere on HealthFoodPost.com, the chlorogenic acid in green coffee beans, which are unroasted coffee beans, may have a number of potential healthy benefits. Many of these potential benefits have been in the news lately. Many of these potential health benefits have been hypothesized to result from the antioxidant called chlorogenic acid, but there have also been a number of studies and news reports suggesting a number of health benefits from consuming traditional roasted coffee. Some have even called coffee the new health food!
The high level of antioxidants in green coffee bean extract may help the body fight toxins and free radicals. The free-radical theory of aging holds that antioxidants may slow down the process of aging.
There have been indications that the chlorogenic acid in green coffee bean extract may help reduce the levels of homocysteine. Decreased levels of homocysteine may reduce the risk of heart problems. Chlorogenic acid may also have some potential to play some role prevent Type 2 diabetes, which is associated with high blood pressure and obesity, but these indications are very preliminary based on very limited research.
So, the potential benefits of green coffee bean extract and the chlorogenic acid contained in it are encouraging on many fronts, but also limited by virtue of the size of research studies and the lack of peer review. So, we are very early on in the research and much more research and clinical studies need to take place to hopefully reinforce some of the evolving hypotheses.
